Product Description

The Green Chromis (Chromis viridis) is a popular, peaceful, schooling damselfish known for its shimmering blue-green colors, ideal for reef aquariums, requiring ample space, hiding spots in branching corals (or replicas), and a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and frozen foods, thriving in groups in stable, warm saltwater.

Appearance & Behavior

Color: Iridescent green/blue, turning more yellow during breeding.

Size: Grows to about 3-4 inches (8-10 cm).

Temperament: Generally peaceful, shy, and less territorial than other damselfish, but still needs hiding spots.

Social: Schooling fish; best kept in groups (4-6+) for security and to reduce stress.

Activity: Active swimmers, darting into coral for safety.

Habitat & Care (Aquarium)

Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for a small group, with plenty of branching corals (like Acropora) for shelter.

Water Parameters:

Temperature: 72-78°F (22-25°C).

Salinity: 1.024-1.026.

dKH: 8-12.

Diet: Omnivores; feed high-quality flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and algae. Feed 2-4 times daily.

Tank Mates: Peaceful reef-safe fish; avoid aggressive species.

Important: A secure lid is necessary as they are prone to jumping.

Breeding

Spawning: Males prepare nests and guard eggs.

Sex Change: Young mature as females and can change sex if becoming dominant.

Key to Success

Groups: Keep them in schools to feel secure.

Hiding: Provide extensive coral structures for refuge.

Food: Consistent, varied feeding.
